Universal Robots: Successful Implementation of SRCI
MESCO Engineering GmbH is pleased to announce that the company has successfully implemented the Standard Robot Command Interface (SRCI) with PROFINET into the software of Universal Robots (UR), the Danish, world-leading provider of collaborative robots (cobots).
The full integration of SRCI into Universal Robots’ software will enhance the connectivity capabilities of UR’s cobots and will ensure customers a frictionless integration with PLCs that also support SRCI. It was first presented in April and is now available in a full version.
With the continuous technological advancement and increasing complexity of industrial applications, there is a growing need for efficient and flexible solutions for robot control and motion sequences. The SRCI interface enables seamless communication between PLC and Robot Controller, simplifying programming and integration of various robots into one application.
By utilizing the SRCI and PROFINET, connected robot controllers can be seamlessly integrated, ensuring continuous and efficient control. The SRCI interface supports several robot functions, which can be easily called in a PLC environment.
The technical implementation is based on a client-server model that enables remote procedure calls. The PLC (Client) sends command messages and parameters to the Robot Controller (Server), which executes the function and sends specific response messages back. The SRCI implementation was tested using the Siemens Test Suite to ensure conformity and quality.
